Personal Finance Knowledge Is Still Important

We’ve hit some rough times in the last few months. The world is faced with difficult and unprecedented decisions every day. Unemployment rates are higher than ever, public unrest is driving emotions, and human health is at risk. Many personal finance gurus have paused or discontinued posting during these rough times, as well. They’ve pushed aside their personal finance advice to steer towards more cultural and political topics while their audience’s finances are strained. I would argue that people need personal finance advice now more than ever.

Considering how stressed people’s finances have become, this is no time to give up on sharing information to the public. People need as much help as they can get. The unemployment rate is above 11% as of June 2020. Excluding 2020, that would qualify as the highest unemployment rate since World War II. Without jobs, people are struggling to make ends meet and need advice from those who know best.

To the personal finance gurus around the world: the people who read your blogs and articles don’t need more information on COVID-19 or social injustice. There’s plenty of that available from other sources. What they need from you is the tools to make their financial situations better. Write about what you know, and give your audiences the information they need. If unemployment benefits start to dry up for those affected by COVID-19, they will need your information and insight even more than now. It will become obvious, if it isn’t already, which gurus and bloggers have their audiences best interest at heart.

I don’t claim to be an expert on politics, science, sociology, or legislation. There certainly are problems in those areas, but I choose to not comment on them due to my lack of knowledge. I choose to defer to the experts in those areas instead. What I do know about is money. I know how to save money and invest to build a better financial future, and I will do my best to provide as much useful information as I can. If there is anything anyone would like me to comment on, please let me know and I will do my best to help.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and be nice to each other.

Thanks for reading!
